Nurturing Growth for Success: Mentorship at Bryant Park

At Bryant Park Consulting (BPC), we are committed to delivering technology transformation services that lead to rewarding and fruitful outcomes for our clients across a multitude of industries. Achieving this goes far beyond mere siloed technical expertise. It requires bringing together a team of exceptional NetSuite experts that can facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills to enable collaboration, and subsequently elevate performance across the business.

At the heart of BPC's values lies a deep commitment to people, reflected in our ethos of prioritizing individual growth from day one. This commitment materializes through the BPC Mentorship Program – a testament to our dedication to nurturing excellence and leadership across our organization.

Fostering a Culture of Excellence

The inception of BPC's Mentorship Program can be traced back to January 2022 when Ryan Finnefrock , our then Enablement Manager, implemented a framework to support new analysts joining the company. Recognizing the positive impact of this initiative, BPC leadership decided to expand the program company-wide by June 2023. The objective was to provide comprehensive support that would help advance the skills of our junior team members, while at the same time providing guidance on how to navigate the complexities of consulting, and eventually mastering the intricacies of NetSuite.

Our Mentorship Program is built on principles of collaboration, open communication, and a shared commitment towards cultivating teamwork, and is designed to promote continuous individual skills development, while at the same time propelling the organization forward. The results we have seen is a symbiotic cycle of knowledge sharing and professional growth throughout our organization.

“The Mentorship Program perfectly represents BPC's value in investing in employees' growth. It is curated with functionality and practicality in mind to pave the way for building your career.”

- Gisela Rodriguez, Associate Consultant at BPC

Structured Support for Meaningful Mentorship

BPC’s Mentorship Program pairs junior employees with seasoned colleagues, offering shadowing and coaching opportunities to help expedite the learning curve. The one-to-one format aims to expand networks and develop competencies tailored to each mentee's industry focus and career aspirations.

Initially, one of the challenges we faced was matching mentors with mentees. In his current role as Chief of Staff, Ryan collaborated closely with the leadership team to comprehensively understand the skills and needs across the organization. This collaborative effort resulted in a process of aligning mentees with mentors one role ahead in their career paths that had similar industry or vertical experience. These pairings are now seamlessly integrated into BPC’s onboarding process for new hires, and dynamically adjusted for existing employees to ensure the most beneficial mentor-mentee relationships.

Mentorship cycles span six months, with pairs meeting biweekly for a minimum of 30 minutes, often choosing to meet more frequently. Ryan sets the program's expectations and provides continuous support, introducing a monthly ‘Mentorship Focus’ that outlines four key development areas— Individual, Strengths, Company, or Life. This monthly focus is brimming with resources and ideas to guide structured and meaningful mentorship discussions, allowing flexibility in exploring topics while ensuring the mentorship remains intentional and aligned with personal and professional growth goals.

The entire process is streamlined by tracking mentorship pairings within BPC's NetSuite environment, coupled with employee development software, Lattice. This approach enables the team to identify individual employee needs and effectively support strategic talent development.

An Intentional Program with Measurable Impact

While mentoring undoubtedly offers substantial advantages, implementing a well-structured program requires commitment and intentionality to ensure effectiveness. Ryan attributes the success of the program at BPC to its strategic introduction during a phase of company growth. This foresight has allowed the organization to capitalize on the program's benefits from the outset, and seamlessly integrate it into the company culture.

The Mentorship Program at BPC consistently yields significant benefits, enhancing employee satisfaction and retention, while fostering innovation through the integration of diverse experiences and viewpoints. The impact is evident in the high satisfaction and engagement levels reported in the H2 2023 survey:

  • 23 out of 24 participants expressed satisfaction with the H2 2023 program.

  • 75% actively participated in the Mentorship Monthly Focus calls.

  • 83% of participants affirmed that mentorship goals/objectives were clearly defined.

The strategic timing of the program's implementation and its seamless integration into BPC's culture have been pivotal in achieving these positive outcomes.

“Coming from a different industry, I found the mentorship experience at BPC to be very special. My mentor helped me become acquainted with all BPC policies, documents, best practices, and methodologies, and explained them in depth.”

- Vinny Causey, Analyst at BPC
